MCAS has previously hosted 6 students and a teacher from Kasetsart University Laboratory School Centre (Satit Kaset) which is located in Chatuchak, Bangkok.
Kasetsart University Laboratory School Centre provides Grades 1-12 education and they have exchange programs to Japan, USA, UK and Australia. The students our school were hosting are part of a contingent of 21 who had been selected to stay in South Australia for 4 weeks from 18 March to 15 April 2017. Other schools involved in the program are Salisbury East High School and Oakbank Area School.
The objectives for the exchange program are for the students to improve their English, learn about our culture and experience home life in Australia with local families. The students are known by their nicknames of Benz, Four, Jin, Stamp, Bam and Ing. They have had a variety of Aussie experiences with the school and their host families, such as Year 8 Aquatics Camp at Murraylands, visits to Granite Island, Urimbirra Wildlife Park, the Kite festival, Adelaide Central Market, SA Museum & Art Gallery and lots of family activities. Their teacher, Tanaporn, has been involved in various primary classes and experienced the Year 8 Aquatics Camp, the Year 3/4 Our Place Tookayerta Catchment excursion to Goolwa and also participated in the teacher Professional Development day.
The Thai students have adapted easily to our school and, as they speak and understand English quite well, they had little difficulty slotting into our Middle School classes. The exchange has been a positive experience of blending of cultures. We would like to thank our host families Pamela Bruce, Tabetha & Lom Mosel and Irene & Kurt Thrun, plus staff members Lara Davis & Wendy Hayes who have hosted the students and their teacher. Their generosity not only gave the overseas students an opportunity of a lifetime, but enriched our school community and created international perspectives for all our students.
